Nel Noddings grew up in New Jersey. She attended, what she calls, a progressive school where “there was lots of art, music, drama, and no homework….”(Video 1, minute 1:00). Her husband of over 60 years passed away in 2012*, together they had 10 children--5 biological and 5 adopted--30 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. Nel Noddings’ philosophy, “an ethic of caring,” 13–16 builds on the work of psychologist and feminist moral philosopher Carol Gilligan. 17 By setting a foundation for successful pedagogy, Noddings’ ethic of caring may illuminate how students learn to be caring physicians from their own experiences of caring relations with teaching faculty. Nel Noddings (født 1929) er en amerikansk feminist og filosof, der er mest kendt for sit arbejde inden for pædagogisk filosofi, uddannelsesteori og omsorgsetik.
